Process and Production |
A collective blog between Anthony Stephenson, Matthew Whitewood, Harriet Carr and John Walker. We are all 2nd Year Multimedia Students based at Huddersfield University. This blog is to document our progress with the Arduino board and Processing!! |
And the board is finished!
We chose to paint the MDF white as it will reflect the red LEDs better than the wood or a black colour. As you can see we finally got our branding onto the board with thanks to Harriet’s handy box of crafts! (although I did miss up the T; I’m sure some Tipex can sort that out!!) The next stage over easter is to wire the LEDS and start to attach the Arduinos boards. Once that is complete we can then, as a group, start coding.
At this stage we are planning to start with a simple bread board of LEDS to test out the code before we attempt it on the larger LED matrix. We will be uploading our tests over the next few weeks so remember to check back and see what Team Tauon is up to!
Have a happy easter folks!! :D
Making my modeling debut this spring, here I am glueing one of the dozens of LEDS into place. We decided to create a larger board instead of the 8x8 grid we were advised to make. We did this not just because of ego among the group, but we felt that we wanted to really try and create the project to as high a standard as we could. We will brainstorming a bit more over easter to really iron out of the wrinkles of the project (including overall purpose of TAUON, the target audience and the wider selection of products we can create).
At the moment we are really focusing on creating a working prototype but all 4 of us are set on creating a wide range of products under the TAUON brand that uses interactivity and light to create a modern experience for both the home and social areas (such as bars). More to follow after easter :D
Action shot of the fun we were having with glue and LOTS of LEDs :D
Well the board didn’t come back quite as we’d planned. Although it was cut perfectly, the etching hadn’t been added. Not sure what happened but it doesn’t matter. We can easily add our own branding when it’s finished! Now to get painting and glueing!!!
Well things have been a bit quiet recently in the Process and Production front, however things are about to get very, very exciting. We are about to start constructing our final LED matrix as outline in the presentation video. Over the next few weeks we will be documenting the development (and no doubt frustration) of the project. Make sure to check back to see how Team Tauon are getting on!
The Ai file for our board was sent off to get get cut today. We chose a plain MDF material that can easily be painted to our taste. The black lines are what will be cut by the laser cutter and the red (TAUON logo) will be etched into the wood. Looking forward to seeing this come back! Click the image to see it in better quality!
Update to the original presentation video with the name change and structure to the video
Heres all the concept art at the moment, my friend whos a product designer has started on the first draft of the table in solidworks and sent it me today.
And just to note its called Tauon now, not Quark.
Video demonstration of concept to build next term in Process and Production.
The final project shall be a table with a built-in LED matrix with user interaction
What is Quark? Come back later to find out!!!
